Is the AST 3 communication assistants competition still open?

No. Applications closed on 29 July 2025 at noon, Brussels time.

How many places does this competition offer?

435 successful candidates: 159 in graphic design, 150 in social media and 126 as webmasters, each profile with its own list.

Do you need a university degree?

No. The notice accepts two years of post-secondary studies followed by three years of experience, or a secondary education diploma followed by six years of relevant experience.

What tests does the competition include?

Three reasoning tests (verbal, numerical, abstract), a field-related multiple-choice test of 30 questions and the EUFTE, a 40-minute free text. Each has a pass mark to reach.

What determines the final ranking?

The mark in the field-related multiple-choice test, profile by profile. The EUFTE must be passed (5/10) but does not rank; it is marked only for the best-ranked candidates.

Is there an EU knowledge test or an interview?

No. The notice provides for no EU knowledge test, no digital skills test, no assessment centre and no oral test.

How the selection works

Verbal reasoning: 20 questions in 35 minutes, pass mark 10/20, in language 1.
Numerical reasoning (10 questions, 20 minutes) and abstract reasoning (10 questions, 10 minutes): combined pass mark 10/20, in language 1.
Field-related multiple-choice test: 30 questions in 40 minutes, pass mark 15/30, in language 2. Candidates who reach the pass mark are ranked by profile.
EUFTE (“free-text essay on EU matters”): 40 minutes, marked from 0 to 10, pass mark 5/10, in language 2. It assesses written communication; the notice specifies that “The EUFTE is not a language test”.
The EUFTE is marked and eligibility checked for a limited number of candidates taken in ranking order, in principle at most 1.5 times the number of successful candidates sought per profile.
The tests are taken remotely, with online proctoring.

The demographic ageing of developed countries results from the combination of two dynamics: the continuous lengthening of life expectancy and the persistent fall of fertility below the replacement threshold.
